A life devoted to art, education, and children

The painter and children's book author Tsuneyo Kaneda (1926-1988), who was born in Japan, dedicated her life to art and education. Following a career in teaching, she opened her own art studio where she nurtured students' creativity for over 30 years. Her travels across Asia heavily influenced her work, which often placed children at the center of her stories. Her book, Romila's Dream, earned the prestigious Japan Picture Book Award in 1982. In addition to Japan, her paintings have also been showcased in several cities in  South Asia, including Kolkata, Islamabad, and Kathmandu."When I see the brightness in the eyes of children, I cannot help but wish for world peace, because children are our great hope for the future, and it is this hope that I express through my paintings and dolls" —Tsuneyo Kaneda
